Thursday Inspo – Terrific Textures!

Happy Thursday!

Welcome back to the Rachael Taylor blog! We hope you’ve all had a fab week so far. Today we’ve gathered up a little creative inspiration to inspire your doodles & designs – we’ve got a host of fab textures below that we’re sure you’ll love!

Texture, which refers to the appearance or feel of a surface / substance, has always played a huge part in art & design. Your work can have real, physical texture (created with mixed media such as paint, glue & crafting materials), or texture can be replicated in digital artwork through scanning in things such as brush strokes, sewn fabric & even by scanning in & manipulating photos of real life textures such as those below.

If you’re a photographer, you may simply want to capture different textures in your work, such as chipping paint, honeycombs, super smooth or even spiky surfaces & lots more. A fun exercise would be to see just how many textures you can spot & capture with your camera, or how many you can draw in your own sketchbook!

Rachael is a huge fan of capturing texture & using them in her designs. If you’re a fan of her work, you may notice lots of motif layering & various backgrounds which have been made through mark-making & scanning in physical objects. This has helped her create her signature style & is a great way to keep your design process exciting.

Below are a few examples of images shared on instagram under the #texture tag & we’ve even included a recent snap of Rachael’s at the very top! Texture images can also come with gorgeous palettes for you to use in your designs, too, so we encourage you to capture as many as you can for your creative projects!

We hope today’s post has inspired you & happy doodling!
