Rachael Taylor is a fun, enthusiastic creative designer, illustrator & design consultant with over several years industry experience in a variety of fields. Since leaving university this young designer has achieved so much in such a small time span, working for a number of prestigious clients worldwide!
Originally from the Wirral, Merseyside (UK) she graduated from the University of Leeds in 2005, with a BA (Hons) in Textile & Fashion Design. After graduating, her first job was as a print & design technician whilst also working as a part time freelancer in the textile industry. She then went on to progress her textile & stitched screen printed pieces & held her first solo exhibition called 'Stitched' in 2006 at the Brahm Gallery, Leeds. Later that year Rachael was awarded 1st prize in the Janome Creative Competition for a layered paper skirt design.
Then specialising in surface pattern design, she developed her early signature style of layering, textures & quirky hand drawn linework. This style is present in both her screen print & digital work. Wanting to obtain further experience & technical knowledge, Rachael applied for a job with one of the UK’s leading greetings market companies, where she worked as a graphic designer for two years specialising in surface pattern design.
In May 2008, Rachael decided to go it alone & set up her own design studio (based in Leeds) where she now works as a freelance surface pattern designer, textile artist, illustrator, writer, teacher & design consultant. Rachael also runs her own popular label with the brand ethos; “Our aim is to help you fill your life with fabulous colour, patterns & products that will put a great big smile on your face!” Her popular branded products successfully sell online & in stores across the UK, Europe & Australia. She has also secured a number of successful licensed product ranges sold worldwide. You can purchase Rachael’s products via her online store.
Her entire range of work showcases colours & patterns that are spontaneous, as Rachael loves to draw with her right & left hand & sometimes even with her eyes closed. This way her patterns are unique & full of energy; she takes inspiration from everything around her & a lot of her motifs even come from her own mood & personality!
This free-spirited quality in Rachael’s design work has attracted variety of clients in the UK, Europe & the US from design studios & high street stores to private buyers. Rachael has designed for the art, ceramics, interior, fashion, textiles, greetings, stationery, gadget & marketing industries.
