Rachael Taylor is an internationally renowned surface pattern designer, illustrator, published author, public speaker & teacher. She is the Owner & Founder of the Rachael Taylor Studio & the Co-founder of Make it in Design & the groundbreaking e-course The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design. The success of these ventures lead to the creation of the popular online publication, MOYO Magazine - the world’s first online magazine dedicated to surface pattern design.
To date, Rachael has collated an impressive (& still growing) list of global clientele & has had over seventy pieces of her work published across many well known design publications as well as several press & media outlets. From design books, interiors magazines & TV appearances, to trend books & online features, Rachael & her one-of-a-kind design portfolio have made a big impression in the design industry. Her artwork decorates products within the ceramic, interior, fashion, textile, greeting, stationery, gadget & personalised markets.
Rachael’s success in the design industry began at the University of Leeds in 2005, with a BA (Hons) in Textile & Fashion Design, where Rachael developed her early signature style of layering, texturing & creating quirky, hand-drawn line work. After graduating she firstly worked in house as a full time print technician with one of the leading textile companies in the north alongside side exhibiting her art in numerous galleries. Wanting to expand her experience & technical knowledge as a graphic designer, Rachael began working for one of the leading UK greetings card companies, where she specialised in surface pattern design for two years.
After Rachael had established her distinctive design style & had built up a wealth of technical knowledge, she decided to set up her own design studio in 2008 to fly solo. With plenty of creative freedom, Rachael began to develop her colourful & original design range & experiment with her inimitable techniques, such as drawing with both her left & right hands & doodling with her eyes closed. In doing this, Rachael has ensured her designs are unique, fun & always full of energy. The free-spirited quality of Rachael’s design work has since attracted a wide range of buyers & clients in the UK, Europe & USA. She is also proudly represented by her agent - the well-established Lilla Rogers Studio.
All of Rachael’s success even prompted her to begin public speaking & she is now regularly hired to deliver design-based seminars & lectures around the UK & USA. With her sister company Make it in Design, Rachael also teaches online surface pattern design modules & helps to deliver e-courses to aspiring designers all over the world; to date her classes have reached over 6500 individual students across 65 different countries. She is also a member of the ACID (Anti-Copying in Design) Advisory Council & an active member in the design community.
Rachael encourages new commissions, freelance work & licensing collaborations. If you are interested in her work, such as her full product range or a particular piece, you can request further information via email on the contact page or request access to her private archive.
